Motorola Moto 360 watches are regarded as a kind of milestone in the segment of smart watches – has finally brought a stylish design. To the editor, we have now reached the second generation. He learned from the mistakes of the predecessor?
- Design and construction
- Battery life
Small but significant changes
At first glance, watches the Motorola Moto 360 (2015) almost identical to the previous generation. Round display, metal structure, a single control button and the light sensor, which removes the otherwise regular dial. Two key changes – otherwise dealt with mounting strap and position control button .
New mounting tape prevents cracking body
Tape the first generation Motorola Moto 360 watches optically enters into the body of the watch, which looks very good.Even from my own experience, however, we know that this attachment is not perfect – there was a cracking body. The new generation is therefore Motorola decided to change that, while less appealing to the eye, but it is likely most users will appreciate.
Universal accessory wardrobe
If we compare the tested watches with Huawei Watch , they seem to be less formal and more universal. You can simply take them anywhere. Huawei Watch has on the other hand, more elegant and luxurious appearance. Creators eliminate all sharp edges that we could meet when worn. For processing we have no objections.
The actual dial is huge (for example, compared with Gear S2 in the figure below) Motorola Moto 360 but there is also a smaller version with 42 mm dial. The thickness of the watch is identical to the previous generation – is high, but still smaller than the aforementioned Huawei Watch . Feels a watch with a leather strap and a very light hand, we are after a bit of a habit almost feel.
Control key moves
Watch screen is covered by tempered glass, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 , which – like the first generation – clearly stands out above the metal body and its extra edge refracts light and image. It seems strange, but the shutter users really like this.Just a pity that due to vystouplému glass slightly increases the risk of scratching.
The control button is used to switch on / off the display or return to the “home screen” media watch. This year’s key generation has shifted by approximately 45 ° counterclockwise, which we welcome – although perhaps not as spectacular, but definitely better controlled.
Comfortable strap and waterproof construction
A test version of the watch Motorola Moto 360 (2015) is fitted with a leather strap that does not look so luxurious feel, but is – in our opinion – more practical. Entire watches are in fact easier, more convenient and easy, everyone can choose their size. Wearing a watch is really comfortable – even though we were not used to them after a few hours we felt almost at hand. Praise. If you strip after all did not work, it can be exchanged for another standard.
Bottom side offers a sensor measuring heart rhythm, which is more indicative figure (at least as far as accuracy).Watches are covered IP67 certified – so do not worry about them in the shower, swimming and diving but skip. Vibration strength is evaluated as rather average . Charging connector pins or would seek in vain, Motorola Moto 360 (2015) again is betting on wireless charging.
Display: The spectacle that does not disappoint
While the main competition is betting on OLED technology, Motorola remains faithful to LCD panels. When you first use we were not even sure if it’s an OLED, since the filing of black color is excellent. The clock face has a diameter of 1.56 “(1.37” with a smaller version), the resolution is 360 x 330 pixels . Softness and color ratios is smart watches good .
The display can again be operated in two modes:
- still active display: In this mode, the display after a few seconds when you do not touch, switch to lean monochrome mode, in which only displays the time.
- Off screen: To protect the battery display after a few seconds off completely.
We noticed that dial in standby mode “nibbled” = picture is coarser than the first generation. Maybe it’s a tax for battery saving. The display area is still light sensor , which cuts a bottom portion. Perhaps only consolation is the fact that this part is a little bit smaller than its predecessor.
Readability in sunlight is not a problem
Although the winter weather has not brought sharp sun rays, but we tested a couple of hours even in bright sunlight. The result is satisfactory – under the lighted display we had no problems with reading. We are pleased that your watchbrightness controls themselves , and we had no need to manually change the brightness.
On hand commands respond watch accurately and overall we had no problems with control. Functional is also a gesture to automatically display lights, which often inadvertently turns on watch, but it is common to all smart watch market.
Android Wear no surprise
Motorola Moto 360 (2015) follows in the same vein as most of the competition – the system uses Android Wear. This makes environment watches the same as in dozens of other models and now we are nothing surprising. Feelings of use of the watch, we can be summarized as follows:
- system is in English
- environment is simple and clear
- New users mostly at the controls and gestures while getting used to
- the user receives notification from the phone (call, SMS, e-mail, Hangouts, Facebook, etc.).
- with a watch can be controlled by a mobile phone (SMS typing, search …)
- dictation in English works very well
Communication with CMS phone Huawei Mate 7 is bypassed without any problems – the pairing process was easy, then the connection is stable. Prevent accidental disconnection, and if we have to watch to your phone departed again automatically links restored after zooming.
Android Wear is simply not express
At the speed of Android Wear encounter in every review – perfection is in fact still far, and unfortunately even the best smart watch market. From time to time just happens to watch a second oversleep . This is especially noticeable when entering the Settings menu, where you watch almost regularly pauses for a second. We are still hoping that some of the other Android Wear updates faster. It’s not a disaster (especially smart watches), but it could be better.
Battery life on a single charge is catching up with the competition
The first generation of smart watches Motorola Moto 360 has been blamed for poor battery life per charge, which often did not even reach one day. The second generation has improved and in good conscience, we can say that during active use, we always watch lasted around 1.5 days (that is, from morning to about noon the next day, night watches were off).In the case of a slight investigation and still off the display on the user can even get 2 days .
Smart watches Motorola Moto 360 (2015), however, have cleverly solved the charge, which generally weaker stamina smart watches at least partially blurring. Charging is wireless and battery charger form a very handy kickstand . When charging extra watch turns into a useful desk clock. Most users with smart watch hands sleeps, so why not put the place on the table to stand where they belong? They will never interfere overnight to recharge and additionally serves as a bedside clock. Practical.
Hardware: surprise, but neither disappoints
Inside the watch Motorola Moto 360 (2015) find components such feature some of last year’s models. So there is nothing that surprised us, on the other hand still on the ratios of smart watches sufficient . Compared lack watch-packed models from Motorola, for example, NFC and GPS needed. There is, of course, pedometer, accelerometer, ambient light sensor, measuring the heart rhythm and need a microphone.
Motorola Moto 360 (2015): A smart watch that can not buy with us
Although the watches were introduced at the beginning of September, the Czech market has not yet reached. And officially or probably never get, because Motorola just in our country, mobile phones and smart accessories officially sold.So where can watch Motorola Moto 360 (2015) to purchase and how it works?
A test piece comes from the German trade Mediamarkt, which was available at a price of 345 euros, or about 9300 CZK .That’s not a small sum, especially considering the fact that a rival Huawei Watch are just a few hundred more expensive and available on the Czech market.
Conclusion: Precious, but expensive and inaccessible
Smart watches Motorola Moto 360 (2015) are quite nice watch that but on the other hand, nothing new. Elegant design, excellent workmanship, hilarious display, Android Wear or need a handy charger. That’s a great card, which boast but some older and cheaper models. Also mentioned disadvantages are even competitors – the high price, battery life is still “only” 1.5 days or occasional slowdown of Android Wear.
The current owners of the Motorola Moto 360 watches do not have much reason to move – Design changed only slightly and no new features waiting for you. Also deter higher price. Watches are already among themselves compared .
And how is it in comparison with watches Huawei Watch ? Both models operate practically the same costs are also similar, and so only, but for the significant difference is the design. Decide for just one model that pleases your eye more.
Final Verdict : If you’re smart watches Motorola Moto 360 (2015) design like it, certainly not make a mistake. Watch function exactly as the user would expect, but also brings almost nothing extra. Except maybe handy charger.
