Franklin County is a county located in the state of Indiana. As of 2000, the population is 22,151. The county’s county seat is Brookville, Indiana.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,014 km² (391 mi²). 1,000 km² (386 mi²) of it is land and 14 km² (5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.36% water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 22,151 people, 7,868 households, and 6,129 families residing in the county. The population density is 22/km² (57/mi²). There are 8,596 housing units at an average density of 9/km² (22/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 99.02% White, 0.03% Black or African American, 0.16% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.09% from other races, and 0.47% from two or more races. 0.47% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 7,868 households out of which 37.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.00% are married couples living together, 8.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.10% are non-families. 19.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.77 and the average family size is 3.17.
In the county the population is spread out with 28.10% under the age of 18, 7.60% from 18 to 24, 29.20% from 25 to 44, 22.60% from 45 to 64, and 12.50% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 99.70 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.60 males.
