Adair County is a county located in the state of Iowa. As of 2000, the population is 8,243. Its county seat is Greenfield, Iowa. The county was created in 1851 and named for John Adair, a general in the War of 1812.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,477 km² (570 mi²). 1,474 km² (569 mi²) of it is land and 3 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.18% water.

As of the census of 2000, there are 8,243 people, 3,398 households, and 2,324 families residing in the county. The population density is 6/km² (14/mi²).
