Carroll County is a county located in the state of Iowa. As of 2000, the population is 21,421. Its county seat is Carroll, Iowa.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,477 km² (570 mi²). 1,475 km² (569 mi²) of it is land and 2 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.16% water.

The racial makeup of the county is 98.87% White, 0.18% Black or African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 0.20% from other races, and 0.31% from two or more races. 0.54% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 8,486 households out of which 32.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.00% are married couples living together, 6.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.20% are non-families. 29.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.46 and the average family size is 3.07.
