Decatur County is a county located in the state of Iowa. As of 2000, the population is 8,689. Its county seat is Leon, Iowa. This county is named for Stephen Decatur, Jr., a hero in the War of 1812.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,381 km² (533 mi²). 1,377 km² (532 mi²) of it is land and 4 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.29% water.

The average household size is 2.37 and the average family size is 2.96.
