Page County is a county located in the state of Iowa. As of 2000, the population is 16,976. Its county seat is Clarinda, Iowa.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,387 km² (535 mi²). 1,385 km² (535 mi²) of it is land and 1 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.10% water.

As of the census of 2000, there are 16,976 people, 6,708 households, and 4,460 families residing in the county. The population density is 12/km² (32/mi²). There are 7,302 housing units at an average density of 5/km² (14/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 96.11% White, 1.66% Black or African American, 0.49% Native American, 0.48% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.49% from other races, and 0.77% from two or more races. 1.56% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 6,708 households out of which 28.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.50% are married couples living together, 8.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.50% are non-families. 29.90% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.32 and the average family size is 2.87.
