Cherokee County (standard abbreviation: CK) is a county located in the state of Kansas. As of 2000, the population is 22,605. The county seat is Columbus.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,531 km² (591 mi²). 1,521 km² (587 mi²) of it is land and 10 km² (4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.65% water.

The racial makeup of the county is 92.27% White, 0.61% Black or African American, 3.45% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.50% from other races, and 2.90% from two or more races. 1.29% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 8,875 households out of which 32.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.60% are married couples living together, 9.70% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.70% are non-families. 26.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
