Douglas County (standard abbreviation: DG) is a county located in the state of Kansas. As of 2000, the population is 99,962. The county seat is at Lawrence.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,229 km² (474 mi²). 1,183 km² (457 mi²) of it is land and 46 km² (18 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.71% water.

The racial makeup of the county is 86.09% White, 4.24% Black or African American, 2.56% Native American, 3.12% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 1.20% from other races, and 2.73% from two or more races. 3.27% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 38,486 households out of which 27.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.10% are married couples living together, 8.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 45.00% are non-families. 28.50% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.37 and the average family size is 2.97.
