Ford County (standard abbreviation: FO) is a county located in the state of Kansas. As of 2000, the population is 32,458. Its county seat is Dodge City, Kansas.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,847 km² (1,099 mi²). 2,845 km² (1,098 mi²) of it is land and 2 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.07% water.

The racial makeup of the county is 74.85% White, 1.62% Black or African American, 0.63% Native American, 2.05% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 18.17% from other races, and 2.56% from two or more races. 37.68% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 10,852 households out of which 40.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.90% are married couples living together, 9.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.60% are non-families. 22.70% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.92 and the average family size is 3.42.

In the county the population is spread out with 31.10% under the age of 18, 11.20% from 18 to 24, 29.40% from 25 to 44, 17.30% from 45 to 64, and 11.00% who are 65 years of age or older.
