Saline County (standard abbreviation: SA) is a county located in the state of Kansas. As of 2000, the population is 53,597. Its county seat is Salina.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,868 km² (721 mi²). 1,864 km² (720 mi²) of it is land and 4 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.23% water.

The racial makeup of the county is 89.17% White, 3.10% Black or African American, 0.52% Native American, 1.70% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 3.33% from other races, and 2.14% from two or more races. 6.02% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 21,436 households out of which 32.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.90% are married couples living together, 9.70% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.70% are non-families. 28.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.70% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
