Henderson County is a county located in the state of Kentucky. As of 2000, the population is 44,829. Its county seat is Henderson.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,210 km² (467 mi²). 1,140 km² (440 mi²) of it is land and 70 km² (27 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.80% water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 44,829 people, 18,095 households, and 12,576 families residing in the county. The population density is 39/km² (102/mi²). There are 19,466 housing units at an average density of 17/km² (44/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 91.16% White, 7.10% Black or African American, 0.16% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.39% from other races, and 0.86% from two or more races. 0.97% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 18,095 households out of which 32.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.40% are married couples living together, 11.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.50% are non-families. 26.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
