Logan County is a county located in the state of Kentucky. As of 2000, the population is 26,573. Its county seat is Russellville.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,443 km² (557 mi²). 1,439 km² (556 mi²) of it is land and 4 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.25% water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 26,573 people, 10,506 households, and 7,574 families residing in the county. The population density is 18/km² (48/mi²). There are 11,875 housing units at an average density of 8/km² (21/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 90.70% White, 7.62% Black or African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.33% from other races, and 0.96% from two or more races. 1.08% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 10,506 households out of which 33.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.20% are married couples living together, 11.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.90% are non-families. 25.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.50 and the average family size is 2.96.
In the county the population is spread out with 25.70% under the age of 18, 8.40% from 18 to 24, 28.50% from 25 to 44, 23.60% from 45 to 64, and 13.80% who are 65 years of age or older.
