Russell County is a county located in the state of Kentucky. As of 2000, the population is 16,315. Its county seat is Jamestown.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 732 km² (283 mi²). 657 km² (254 mi²) of it is land and 76 km² (29 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 10.36% water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 16,315 people, 6,941 households, and 4,796 families residing in the county. The population density is 25/km² (64/mi²). There are 9,064 housing units at an average density of 14/km² (36/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.34% White, 0.58% Black or African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.21% from other races, and 0.59% from two or more races. 0.86% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 6,941 households out of which 29.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.30% are married couples living together, 10.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.90% are non-families. 28.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
