Claiborne Parish is a parish located in the state of Louisiana. The parish seat is Homer and as of 2000, the population is 16,851. The parish is named for the first Louisiana governor, William C. C. Claiborne.
Geography
The parish has a total area of 1,988 km2 (768 mi2). 1,955 km2 (755 mi2) of it is land and 33 km2 (13 mi2) of it is water. The total area is 1.68% water.

The racial makeup of the parish is 51.80% White, 47.37% Black or African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.08% from other races, and 0.48% from two or more races. 0.76% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 6,270 households out of which 29.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.10% are married couples living together, 17.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.80% are non-families. 28.50% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.50 and the average family size is 3.07.
