Webster Parish is a parish located in the state of Louisiana. The parish seat is Minden and as of 2000, the population is 41,831.

Geography

The parish has a total area of 1,593 km2 (615 mi2). 1,542 km2 (595 mi2) of it is land and 51 km2 (20 mi2) of it is water. The total area is 3.23% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 41,831 people, 16,501 households, and 11,567 families residing in the parish. The population density is 27/km2 (70/mi2). There are 18,991 housing units at an average density of 12/km2 (32/mi2). The racial makeup of the parish is 65.51% White, 32.83% Black or African American, 0.34% Native American, 0.19% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.22% from other races, and 0.86% from two or more races. 0.90% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 16,501 households out of which 30.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.70% are married couples living together, 16.30% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.90% are non-families. 27.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 2.99.
