Piscataquis County is a county located in the state of Maine. As of 2000, the population is 17,235. Its county seat is Dover-Foxcroft.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 11,337 km² (4,377 mi²). 10,272 km² (3,966 mi²) of it is land and 1,065 km² (411 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 9.39% water.

Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 17,235 people, 7,278 households, and 4,854 families residing in the county. The population density is 2/km² (4/mi²). There are 13,783 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (4/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.84% White, 0.21% Black or African American, 0.52% Native American, 0.27% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.14% from other races, and 1.00% from two or more races. 0.52% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 7,278 households out of which 28.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.10% are married couples living together, 8.40% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.30% are non-families. 27.80% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
