Nicollet County is a county located in the state of Minnesota. As of 2000, the population is 29,771. Its county seat is St. Peter.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,209 km² (467 mi²). 1,171 km² (452 mi²) of it is land and 38 km² (15 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.14% water.

As of the census of 2000, there are 29,771 people, 10,642 households, and 7,311 families residing in the county. The population density is 25/km² (66/mi²). There are 11,240 housing units at an average density of 10/km² (25/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 96.37% White, 0.80% Black or African American, 0.26% Native American, 1.14% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.65% from other races, and 0.75% from two or more races. 1.80% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 10,642 households out of which 35.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.50% are married couples living together, 7.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.30% are non-families. 24.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.56 and the average family size is 3.05.

In the county the population is spread out with 24.70% under the age of 18, 16.40% from 18 to 24, 26.90% from 25 to 44, 21.20% from 45 to 64, and 10.80% who are 65 years of age or older.
