Calhoun County is a county located in the state of Mississippi. As of 2000, the population is 15,069. Its county seat is Pittsboro.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,523 km² (588 mi²). 1,519 km² (587 mi²) of it is land and 4 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.24% water.
As of the census of 2000, there are 15,069 people, 6,019 households, and 4,255 families residing in the county. The population density is 10/km² (26/mi²). There are 6,902 housing units at an average density of 5/km² (12/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 69.41% White, 28.65% Black or African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.06% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.11% from other races, and 0.59% from two or more races. 2.11% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 6,019 households out of which 31.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.00% are married couples living together, 15.40% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.30% are non-families. 27.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
