Choctaw County is a county located in the state of Mississippi. As of 2000, the population is 9,758. Its county seat is Ackerman.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,087 km² (420 mi²). 1,085 km² (419 mi²) of it is land and 2 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.17% water.
As of the census of 2000, there are 9,758 people, 3,686 households, and 2,668 families residing in the county. The population density is 9/km² (23/mi²). There are 4,249 housing units at an average density of 4/km² (10/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 68.03% White, 30.68% Black or African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.42% from other races, and 0.42% from two or more races. 0.81% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
