Simpson County is a county located in the state of Mississippi. As of 2000, the population is 27,639. Its county seat is Mendenhall.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,529 km² (591 mi²). 1,525 km² (589 mi²) of it is land and 5 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.30% water.
As of the census of 2000, there are 27,639 people, 10,076 households, and 7,385 families residing in the county. The population density is 18/km² (47/mi²). There are 11,307 housing units at an average density of 7/km² (19/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 64.39% White, 34.31% Black or African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.47% from other races, and 0.56% from two or more races. 1.15% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
