Tate County is a county located in the state of Mississippi. As of 2000, the population is 25,370. Its county seat is Senatobia.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,064 km² (411 mi²). 1,048 km² (404 mi²) of it is land and 17 km² (6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.57% water.
As of the census of 2000, there are 25,370 people, 8,850 households, and 6,717 families residing in the county. The population density is 24/km² (63/mi²). There are 9,354 housing units at an average density of 9/km² (23/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 67.84% White, 31.02% Black or African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.25% from other races, and 0.56% from two or more races. 0.88% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 8,850 households out of which 36.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.00% are married couples living together, 15.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.10% are non-families. 21.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
