Tippah County is a county located in the state of Mississippi. As of 2000, the population is 20,826. Its county seat is Ripley.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,191 km² (460 mi²). 1,186 km² (458 mi²) of it is land and 5 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.45% water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 20,826 people, 8,108 households, and 5,910 families residing in the county. The population density is 18/km² (46/mi²). There are 8,868 housing units at an average density of 7/km² (19/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 81.85% White, 15.92% Black or African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 1.29% from other races, and 0.61% from two or more races. 2.08% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 8,108 households out of which 33.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.20% are married couples living together, 11.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.10% are non-families. 24.90% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
