Beaverhead County is the largest county by area in the state of Montana. As of 2000, the population is 9,202. Its county seat is Dillon.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 14,432 km² (5,572 mi²). 14,355 km² (5,542 mi²) of it is land and 77 km² (30 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.53% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 9,202 people, 3,684 households, and 2,354 families residing in the county. The population density is 1/km² (2/mi²). There are 4,571 housing units at an average density of 0/km² (1/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 95.86% White, 0.18% Black or African American, 1.46% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 1.09% from other races, and 1.18% from two or more races. 2.67% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
