Missoula County is a county located in the state of Montana. As of 2000, the population is 95,802. Its county seat is Missoula.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 6,781 km² (2,618 mi²). 6,729 km² (2,598 mi²) of it is land and 53 km² (20 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.78% water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 95,802 people, 38,439 households, and 23,140 families residing in the county. The population density is 14/km² (37/mi²). There are 41,319 housing units at an average density of 6/km² (16/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 94.02% White, 0.27% Black or African American, 2.29% Native American, 1.02% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.45% from other races, and 1.86% from two or more races. 1.61% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 38,439 households out of which 29.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.40% are married couples living together, 9.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.80% are non-families. 28.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.40 and the average family size is 2.96.
