Stillwater County is a county located in the state of Montana. As of 2000, the population is 8,195. Its county seat is Columbus.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 4,674 km² (1,805 mi²). 4,649 km² (1,795 mi²) of it is land and 25 km² (10 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.53% water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 8,195 people, 3,234 households, and 2,347 families residing in the county. The population density is 2/km² (5/mi²). There are 3,947 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (2/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 96.82% White, 0.13% Black or African American, 0.70% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.94% from other races, and 1.18% from two or more races. 2.01% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,234 households out of which 32.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.60% are married couples living together, 5.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.40% are non-families. 24.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 2.94.
