Wheatland County is a county located in the state of Montana. As of 2000, the population is 2,259. Its county seat is Harlowton.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 3,699 km² (1,428 mi²). 3,686 km² (1,423 mi²) of it is land and 13 km² (5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.36% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 2,259 people, 853 households, and 540 families residing in the county. The population density is 1/km² (2/mi²). There are 1,154 housing units at an average density of 0/km² (1/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 96.99% White, 0.13% Black or African American, 0.58% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.22% Pacific Islander, 0.27% from other races, and 1.64% from two or more races. 1.11% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 853 households out of which 25.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.80% are married couples living together, 4.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.60% are non-families. 34.50% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
