Boone County is a county located in the state of Nebraska. As of 2000, the population is 6,259. Its county seat is Albion.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,780 km² (687 mi²). 1,779 km² (687 mi²) of it is land and 1 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.08% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 6,259 people, 2,454 households, and 1,700 families residing in the county. The population density is 4/km² (9/mi²). There are 2,733 housing units at an average density of 2/km² (4/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 99.25% White, 0.05% Black or African American, 0.05% Native American, 0.03% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.30% from other races, and 0.29% from two or more races. 0.89% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,454 households out of which 33.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.80% are married couples living together, 5.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.70% are non-families. 29.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.50 and the average family size is 3.11.
