Deuel County is a county located in the state of Nebraska. As of 2000, the population is 2,098. Its county seat is Chappell.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,142 km² (441 mi²). 1,139 km² (440 mi²) of it is land and 2 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.20% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 2,098 people, 908 households, and 601 families residing in the county. The population density is 2/km² (5/mi²). There are 1,032 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (2/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.33% White, 0.05% Black or African American, 0.38% Native American, 0.38% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.14% from other races, and 0.71% from two or more races. 2.72% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 908 households out of which 25.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.60% are married couples living together, 5.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.80% are non-families. 31.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.29 and the average family size is 2.87.

In the county the population is spread out with 23.30% under the age of 18, 4.90% from 18 to 24, 24.40% from 25 to 44, 24.50% from 45 to 64, and 22.90% who are 65 years of age or older.
