Furnas County is a county located in the state of Nebraska. As of 2000, the population is 5,324. Its county seat is Beaver City.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,866 km² (721 mi²). 1,860 km² (718 mi²) of it is land and 6 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.34% water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 5,324 people, 2,278 households, and 1,489 families residing in the county. The population density is 3/km² (7/mi²). There are 2,730 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (4/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.22% White, 0.08% Black or African American, 0.41% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 0.75% from two or more races. 1.15% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,278 households out of which 28.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.20% are married couples living together, 5.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.60% are non-families. 32.50% of all households are made up of individuals and 19.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
