Valley County is a county located in the state of Nebraska. As of 2000, the population is 4,647. Its county seat is Ord.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,478 km² (571 mi²). 1,471 km² (568 mi²) of it is land and 6 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.42% water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 4,647 people, 1,965 households, and 1,298 families residing in the county. The population density is 3/km² (8/mi²). There are 2,273 housing units at an average density of 2/km² (4/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.15% White, 0.15% Black or African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.80% from other races, and 0.41% from two or more races. 1.61% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,965 households out of which 28.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.70% are married couples living together, 5.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.90% are non-families. 31.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
