Catron County is a county located in the state of New Mexico. As of 2000, the population is 3,543. Its county seat is Reserve.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 17,946 km² (6,929 mi²). 17,943 km² (6,928 mi²) of it is land and 3 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.02% water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 3,543 people, 1,584 households, and 1,040 families residing in the county. The population density is 0/km² (0/mi²). There are 2,548 housing units at an average density of 0/km² (0/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 87.75% White, 0.28% Black or African American, 2.20% Native American, 0.68% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 5.42% from other races, and 3.61% from two or more races. 19.16% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,584 households out of which 22.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.40% are married couples living together, 7.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.30% are non-families. 30.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.23 and the average family size is 2.75.
