Canadian County is a county located in the state of Oklahoma. As of 2000, the population is 87,697. Its county seat is El Reno. Canadian County is also part of the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,344 km² (905 mi²). 2,330 km² (900 mi²) of it is land and 14 km² (5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.60% water.

As of the census of 2000, there are 87,697 people, 31,484 households, and 24,431 families residing in the county. The population density is 38/km² (98/mi²). There are 33,969 housing units at an average density of 15/km² (38/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 87.01% White, 2.16% Black or African American, 4.27% Native American, 2.45% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 1.35% from other races, and 2.72% from two or more races. 3.86% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 31,484 households out of which 39.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.30% are married couples living together, 9.70% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.40% are non-families. 19.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.71 and the average family size is 3.10.

In the county, the population is spread out with 28.00% under the age of 18, 8.20% from 18 to 24, 30.70% from 25 to 44, 23.50% from 45 to 64, and 9.50% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 99.40 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.70 males.
