Coal County is a county located in the state of Oklahoma. As of 2000, the population is 6,031. Its county seat is Coalgate.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,350 km² (521 mi²). 1,342 km² (518 mi²) of it is land and 8 km² (3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.59% water.

As of the census of 2000, there are 6,031 people, 2,373 households, and 1,653 families residing in the county. The population density is 4/km² (12/mi²). There are 2,744 housing units at an average density of 2/km² (5/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 75.18% White, 0.36% Black or African American, 17.31% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.75% from other races, and 6.09% from two or more races. 2.14% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
