Johnston County is a county located in the state of Oklahoma. As of 2000, the population is 10,513. Its county seat is Tishomingo.


According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,705 km² (658 mi²). 1,669 km² (644 mi²) of it is land and 36 km² (14 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.09% water.

There are 4,782 housing units at an average density of 3/km² (7/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 76.09% White, 1.66% Black or African American, 15.32% Native American, 0.27% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 1.24% from other races, and 5.38% from two or more races. 2.47% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 4,057 households out of which 31.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.60% are married couples living together, 10.70% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.50% are non-families. 25.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 3.02.
