Ottawa County is a county located in the state of Oklahoma. As of 2000, the population is 33,194. Its county seat is Miami.


According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,255 km² (485 mi²). 1,221 km² (471 mi²) of it is land and 35 km² (13 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.77% water.

As of the census of 2000, there are 33,194 people, 12,984 households, and 9,114 families residing in the county. The population density is 27/km² (70/mi²). There are 14,842 housing units at an average density of 12/km² (32/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 74.15% White, 0.58% Black or African American, 16.53% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.14% Pacific Islander, 1.54% from other races, and 6.78% from two or more races. 3.20% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 12,984 households out of which 30.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.60% are married couples living together, 10.70% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.80% are non-families. 26.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 2.98.

In the county, the population is spread out with 25.70% under the age of 18, 9.70% from 18 to 24, 24.80% from 25 to 44, 22.90% from 45 to 64, and 16.90% who are 65 years of age or older.
