Fulton County is a county located in the state of Pennsylvania. As of 2000, the population is 14,261.

Fulton County was created on April 19, 1851 from part of Bedford County and named for inventor Robert Fulton.

Its county seat is McConnellsburg.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,134 km² (438 mi²). 1,133 km² (438 mi²) of it is land and 1 km² (0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.11% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 14,261 people, 5,660 households, and 4,097 families residing in the county. The population density is 13/km² (33/mi²). There are 6,790 housing units at an average density of 6/km² (16/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.25% White, 0.66% Black or African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.04% from other races, and 0.72% from two or more races. 0.36% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 5,660 households out of which 31.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.50% are married couples living together, 8.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.60% are non-families. 24.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.50 and the average family size is 2.95.

In the county, the population is spread out with 24.60% under the age of 18, 7.60% from 18 to 24, 28.40% from 25 to 44, 25.00% from 45 to 64, and 14.50% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 100.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.60 males.
