Clarendon County is a county located in the state of South Carolina. As of 2000, the population is 32,502. Its county seat is Manning.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,802 km² (696 mi²). 1,573 km² (607 mi²) of it is land and 229 km² (88 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 12.72% water.
As of the census of 2000, there are 32,502 people, 11,812 households, and 8,599 families residing in the county. The population density is 21/km² (54/mi²). There are 15,303 housing units at an average density of 10/km² (25/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 44.93% White, 53.14% Black or African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.88% from other races, and 0.52% from two or more races. 1.72% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 11,812 households out of which 31.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.50% are married couples living together, 19.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.20% are non-families. 24.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.30% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.62 and the average family size is 3.12.
