Hanson County is a county located in the state of South Dakota. As of 2000, the population is 3,139. Its county seat is Alexandria.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,128 km² (436 mi²). 1,126 km² (435 mi²) of it is land and 2 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.20% water.

There are 1,218 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (3/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 99.52% White, 0.00% Black or African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.03% from other races, and 0.19% from two or more races. 0.10% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
