Moody County is a county located in the state of South Dakota. As of 2000, the population is 6,595. Its county seat is Flandreau.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,350 km² (521 mi²). 1,346 km² (520 mi²) of it is land and 4 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.27% water.

The racial makeup of the county is 84.91% White, 0.29% Black or African American, 12.01% Native American, 0.56% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.06% from other races, and 2.17% from two or more races. 0.76% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,526 households out of which 35.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.70% are married couples living together, 8.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.20% are non-families. 26.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.12.
