Bledsoe County is a county located in the state of Tennessee. As of 2000, the population is 12,367. Its county seat is Pikeville.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,053 km² (407 mi²). 1,052 km² (406 mi²) of it is land and 1 km² (0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.10% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 12,367 people, 4,430 households, and 3,313 families residing in the county. The population density is 12/km² (30/mi²). There are 5,142 housing units at an average density of 5/km² (13/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 94.44% White, 3.70% Black or African American, 0.38% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.19% from other races, and 1.15% from two or more races. 1.12% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 4,430 households out of which 31.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.50% are married couples living together, 9.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.20% are non-families. 22.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
