Hancock County is a county located in the state of Tennessee. As of 2000, the population is 6,786. Its county seat is Sneedville.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 579 km² (224 mi²). 576 km² (222 mi²) of it is land and 3 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.54% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 6,786 people, 2,769 households, and 1,938 families residing in the county. The population density is 12/km² (30/mi²). There are 3,280 housing units at an average density of 6/km² (15/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.91% White, 0.49% Black or African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.07% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.34% from other races, and 0.94% from two or more races. 0.37% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
