Overton County is a county located in the state of Tennessee. As of 2000, the population is 20,118. Its county seat is Livingston.


According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,126 km² (435 mi²). 1,122 km² (433 mi²) of it is land and 4 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.33% water.


As of the census of 2000, there are 20,118 people, 8,110 households, and 5,920 families residing in the county. The population density is 18/km² (46/mi²). There are 9,168 housing units at an average density of 8/km² (21/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.59% White, 0.28% Black or African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.22% from other races, and 0.49% from two or more races. 0.69% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 8,110 households out of which 29.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.20% are married couples living together, 9.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.00% are non-families. 24.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.46 and the average family size is 2.90.
