Armstrong County is a county located in the state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 2,148. Its county seat is Claude. Armstrong is named for one of several Texas pioneer families, although it is not certain which one. (See List of Texas county name etymologies.)

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,367 km² (914 mi²). 2,366 km² (914 mi²) of it is land and 0 km² (0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.02% water.

The racial makeup of the county is 95.44% White, 0.28% Black or African American, 0.65% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.79% from other races, and 0.84% from two or more races. 5.40% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 802 households out of which 33.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.20% are married couples living together, 6.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.60% are non-families. 21.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
