Haskell County is a county located in the state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 6,093. Its county seat is Haskell. Haskell County is named for Charles R. Haskell, killed in the Goliad massacre.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,358 km² (910 mi²). 2,339 km² (903 mi²) of it is land and 19 km² (7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.80% water.

The racial makeup of the county is 82.78% White, 2.79% Black or African American, 0.54% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 11.67% from other races, and 2.05% from two or more races. 20.50% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,569 households out of which 27.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.60% are married couples living together, 8.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.90% are non-families. 29.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.30% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.33 and the average family size is 2.86.
