Jackson County is a county located in the state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 14,391. Its county seat is Edna. Jackson County is named for Andrew Jackson, President of the United States.


According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,220 km² (857 mi²). 2,148 km² (829 mi²) of it is land and 71 km² (28 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.21% water.

The racial makeup of the county is 76.49% White, 7.64% Black or African American, 0.39% Native American, 0.39% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 12.65% from other races, and 2.39% from two or more races. 24.68% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 5,336 households out of which 34.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.20% are married couples living together, 10.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.10% are non-families. 24.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
