Limestone County is a county located in the state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 22,051. Its county seat is Groesbeck.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,417 km² (933 mi²). 2,354 km² (909 mi²) of it is land and 63 km² (24 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.60% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 22,051 people, 7,906 households, and 5,652 families residing in the county. The population density is 9/km² (24/mi²). There are 9,725 housing units at an average density of 4/km² (11/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 70.75% White, 19.07% Black or African American, 0.45% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 8.10% from other races, and 1.49% from two or more races. 12.97% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 7,906 households out of which 32.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.00% are married couples living together, 13.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.50% are non-families. 25.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.55 and the average family size is 3.04.
