Martin County is a county located in the state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 4,746. Its county seat is Stanton, and the county is named for Wylie Martin, an early settler.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,371 km² (916 mi²). 2,369 km² (915 mi²) of it is land and 2 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.09% water.

As of the census of 2000, there are 4,746 people, 1,624 households, and 1,256 families residing in the county. The population density is 2/km² (5/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 79.01% White, 1.58% Black or African American, 0.82% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 16.06% from other races, and 2.36% from two or more races. 40.56% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
