Mills County is a county located in the state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 5,151. Its county seat is Goldthwaite. Mills County is named for John T. Mills, a justice of the Texas Supreme Court.


According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,942 km² (750 mi²). 1,938 km² (748 mi²) of it is land and 5 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.24% water.

There are 2,001 households out of which 27.50% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.20% are married couples living together, 7.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.10% are non-families. 27.80% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.43 and the average family size is 2.90.
