Nacogdoches County (pronounced nack-a-doe-chis) is a county located in the state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 59,203. Its county seat is Nacogdoches.


According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,542 km² (981 mi²). 2,452 km² (947 mi²) of it is land and 90 km² (35 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.52% water.

As of the census of 2000, there are 59,203 people, 22,006 households, and 14,039 families residing in the county. The population density is 24/km² (62/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 75.00% White, 16.74% Black or African American, 0.39% Native American, 0.70% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 5.70% from other races, and 1.41% from two or more races. 11.25% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 22,006 households out of which 30.50% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.30% are married couples living together, 11.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.20% are non-families. 27.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.30% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.49 and the average family size is 3.08.
