Palo Pinto County is a county located in the state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 27,026. Its county seat is Palo Pinto.


According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,552 km² (986 mi²). 2,468 km² (953 mi²) of it is land and 84 km² (33 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.30% water.

As of the census of 2000, there are 27,026 people, 10,594 households, and 7,447 families residing in the county. The population density is 11/km² (28/mi²). There are 14,102 housing units at an average density of 6/km² (15/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 88.19% White, 2.32% Black or African American, 0.67% Native American, 0.53% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 6.56% from other races, and 1.71% from two or more races. 13.57% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 10,594 households out of which 30.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.60% are married couples living together, 10.40% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.70% are non-families. 26.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.52 and the average family size is 3.02.
